The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) is a Medicaid-funded program in New York State that allows individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions to hire and manage their own personal assistants. Unlike traditional home care services where the agency selects the caregiver, in CDPAP, the patient or their designated representative has the authority to recruit, hire, train, and dismiss caregivers of their choice.
To qualify for CDPAP, you must meet the following eligibility requirements. Have Medicaid or are eligible for Medicaid, Live in New York State, Need help with day-to-day activities and are capable of directing your own care or have a designated representative who can act on your behalf.
Enrolling in our CDPAP program is as easy as 1-2-3. We begin the enrollment process by discussing your needs, and answering any questions you might have. Then, your personal care specialist will assist with collecting insurance paperwork and forms, ensuring everything is submitted correctly. Once your insurance authorization is received, your coordinator will reach out to discuss your start of care.
The best part of our CDPAP program is that you can choose who you want to care for you with minimal exceptions, as long as your caregiver meets the program’s eligibility criteria. Basically, as long as your caregiver is not a parent caring for a child under 21, your legal spouse, or your designated representative, you should be good to go!

Amazing Home Care assists eligible Medicaid recipients in managing their home care needs by facilitating the enrollment of patients and the hiring and payment of the personal caregiver of their choice, whether it be family members, friends, or neighbors.
CDPAP is a Medicaid-funded program, and Medicare does not cover the cost of this program. However, if you are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare, you can use your Medicaid benefits for CDPAP and your Medicare benefits for other services.
If you don’t currently have Medicaid, let your coordinator know during your enrollment call and they will be more than happy to assist you with signing up for the Medicaid program.
